Site-specific workshop

Sustainability is more than just recycling. Our most valuable resource is and has always been you. Creative-Strategy workshops are a way to embolden students and staff to engage in creative ideation, the process of play, and the practice of documentation. When it comes to the field of sustainable work and personal practices, the themes are always the same: the importance of interdependence, the cyclical nature of all things, and the quest to solve complex problems. Not all of us can be scientists or policy makers, but we can create a culture of reverence, where we can reconnect to our own perception and in so creating a space for dialogue. Join us for a Site-Specific workshop to respond to our surroundings and each other this Wednesday morning at the Trial Gardens from 8 to 9 am.

Mark Responding to Mark

Mark Responding to Mark is an exploration of collaborative making. In the exercise there is one large sheet of paper and a variety of tools to make marks, such as pens, markers, paint, etc. Each participant will make a mark and then it will be up to the next to respond with another. The goal here is to work and rework the piece using others input, meaning covering up what others put down or maybe building upon what they started. The challenge is to focus on the big picture and how each mark impacts the overall composition of the paper. It is all too humbling and very often relieving to accept that we never accomplish anything alone. Whether given direct help or building upon research that has been conducted for hundreds of years, every move we make, every change we enact, and every emotion that arises is all a response to the world around us. The outcome of this is practice is to leave with a greater awareness of one another that can be taken into your next conversation or group project. Maybe you will see how everyone is contributing a mark and what’s important is how you choose to respond to it. Join us on the Green Roof this Saturday 2 to 4 pm!
